Oean Attends 215th ECS Conference, San Francisco, CA on May 23-28, 2009
Ocean NanoTech, one of the leading manufacturers of nanocrystals for LEDs and life sciences applications attended the 215th ECS conference that was held in San Francisco, CA. Ocean’s Senior Scientist, Dr. Zoraida P. Aguilar presented on going research on the biological applications of nanocrystals. Entitled “Biological sensors for Various Applications, “ Dr. Aguilar discussed the integration of selected and specific biological materials for the detection of biological species in a solid platform using quantum dots (QDs) for signal transduction. These QD-based sensors can be used for the detection of single or multiple analyte from a single sample by using capture probes to different analytes. Various applications of the assays that were discussed were detection of biological analytes in food, water, clinical, and indoor air samples.
Studies on the development biological sensors in a sandwich type-enzyme linked immunoassay and DNA-hybridization assay in different platforms with different transducers were reported. The platforms included 96-well plate, paramagnetic beads, glass slides, or centrifuge tubes. Future solid platforms such as magnetic nanoparticles were also discussed.
